What is a Dermatome?

A dermatome is a segment of skin that is provided by a single spinal nerve. These nerves carry motor, sensory and autonomic signals. They form part of the peripheral nerve system which connects brain and all the body. Dermatomes can become affected due to a spinal cord injury.
